Douglas C. Evans
1932-2015
Mr. Douglas Carlisle Evans of Saint Augustine, Florida, passed away on his 83rd birthday, March 8, 2015. Born in Orange, New Jersey, he was the only child of Carl R. and Marion (Logan) Evans, and grandson of Ernest and Helen (Ingersoll) Logan.
Doug spent many summers with his grandparents here on Grand Manan. His love of boats and boating started here and led to his later participation in the US Power Squadron as both student and instructor. Doug served four years in the Air Force during the Korean conflict, including a year in Korea. Following his time in the Air Force, he attended and graduated from General Motors Institute, now known as Kettering University. His lifelong interest in cars led to his 35 year career with Ford Motor Company, serving in various management positions in the New York, Philadelphia and Pittsburgh district offices. Among his hobbies were restoring and repairing antique outboard motors and old farm machinery. During his retirement in Cambridge, Maryland, he became active in and President of the Neck District Volunteer Fire Company. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Anita, three sons; Scott L. of Huntington, NY, Russell W. of Mocksville, NC, Bradford C. of Parkland, FL, seven grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.
There will be a memorial service to honor Doug’s life on July 16, 2015 at 2:00 pm at the Church of the Ascension. The interment of ashes will follow at the North Head Community Cemetery.
