Anne Marie Ingersoll

Mrs. A. Marie Ingersoll formerly of Seal Cove, Grand Manan Island, NB passed away at the Saint John Regional Hospital on Wednesday, June 24, 2015 with her family by her side. She was eighty six. Marie was the beloved wife of Morris Ingersoll for sixty five years.  She was a graduate of Harkins High School, Newcastle, NB and NB Teachers College, where she attended as a Beaverbrook Scholarship recipient.  Marie began her teaching career in September 1948 on Grand Manan Island, where she taught for thirty two years. She started teaching in Castalia, then Grand Harbour, and Seal Cove Elementary School, with her final years at the Grand Manan Elementary School. Marie loved teaching, especially her last twelve years.  Every pupil was special to her. In 1977 Marie was awarded the Queen’s Silver Jubilee Medal for her service to the schools of NB.  More important than teaching to Marie was her family. She was so proud of them all.

She is survived by her husband, Morris Ingersoll, one daughter Dr. Ruth Ingersoll (David Ramsay), and three sons Gerald (Diane) of St. Andrews NB, Gregg (Janice), Memramcook, NB and Daniel Q.C. (Cindy), Halifax, NS. She is also survived by three granddaughters, Emily (Cory) McGill, Jessica Ingersoll (Jeff Piercy), Tressa (Scott) Bevington, five grandsons, Christopher Ingersoll, Samuel Ingersoll, Luke Armstrong, Samuel Armstrong, Max Ingersoll and also seven great grandchildren.  Marie also leaves behind two sisters-in-law, Barbara Brown, Seal Cove, and Irene Ingersoll, North Head, as well as many nieces and nephews.  She was predeceased by her sister Mona Ross in 2015. 

There will be a funeral service to celebrate Marie’s life on Saturday, June 27, 2015 at 1:30 pm at the Seal Cove Baptist Church with Rev. Peter Smith officiating.  Following the service there will be a reception for a time of fellowship with the family.  The internment of ashes will take place at the Hillside Cemetery. Donations may be made to the Gideon Bibles, The Seal Cove Baptist Church or the donor’s choice.
