Alice Maud Somers Newton

Mrs. Alice Maud Somers Newton (nee Cook) passed away on the 9th of September 2014 in Parksville, British Columbia, where she resided for the past seven years.  Alice is survived by her daughter Scynthia Jomini (David) of Qualicum Beach, British Columbia, two Grand Children, one Great Grand Child, several nieces and nephews.  She was predeceased by her husbands Eugene Somers and Philip Newton.  Also her daughter Eileen Somers.  A native of Grand Manan Island, Alice graduated from New Brunswick Normal School Teachers College winning the Governor Generals medal for excellence. She taught in Grand Manan Schools for 21½ years.  Alice lived the last 12 years of her life in Ajax, Ontario and Parksville, British Columbia, but Grand Manan was always "HOME".

A memorial service will take place at St. Paul’s Anglican Church, Grand Harbour, Grand Manan Island on Saturday October 11, 2014 at 1:30 pm with Rev. Dana Dean officiating. There will be a reception following the service.  Interment will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to a charity of your choice, St. Paul’s Anglican Church Memorial Fund or Maple Grove Cemetery Maintenance Fund.  Funeral arrangements are in the care of Ells Funeral Home Inc., 1199 Route 776, Grand Manan, NB E5G 1G2.
