Sonia Sylvia Morse

Mrs. Sonia (Sonny) S. Morse formerly of Grand Harbour, Grand Manan Island passed away peacefully at the Grand Manan Nursing Home on Monday June 23, 2014.  She was born the daughter of the late Nicholas and Pauline (Petrowsky) Bellows at Danvers Massachusetts, USA. Her parents both emigrated from Siberia, Russia. Sonny graduated from Framingham State Teachers College in Massachusetts and later obtained her master’s degree in reading from Gordon Collage in Massachusetts. She was a reading teacher in Massachusetts and New Hampshire for many years and also tutored many Grand Manan Island students. Sonny was known for her wonderful cooking and great meals, especially at holiday times. She faithfully supported her husband's Christian Ministry, and very active within the churches. Sonny dedicated many years to helping those in need. She is survived by one daughter Sara (Ben) Nest of Kennebunkport Maine.  One son Gregory (Carol) Morse of Lebanon Maine. One sister Lydia (Zoel) Sylvester of Danvers Massachusetts. Four grandchildren Laura (Nest) Wallace, Lydia (Nest) Welch, Adam Morse and Daniel Morse. Five great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Her special loving friends Dianne and Allan Ashfield. Sonny was predeceased by her husband Rev. Roger Morse in 2004, one daughter Johanna Johnson, one granddaughter Stephanie Collins, her parents, four sisters and three brothers.  The family would like to thank the many caregivers and all the of the staff at the Grand Manan Nursing Home for many years of excellent care.

The funeral service will take place at Ells Funeral Home on Monday June 30, 2014 at 1:30PM with Rev. Dana Dean officiating. The interment will follow at the Maple Grove Cemetery. In lieu of flowers Sonny's memory can be honored with donations to the Grand Manan Nursing Home Foundation or the charity of the donor’s choice.
