Agnes Laura Bainbridge

Mrs. Agnes Bainbridge formerly of Ingalls Head, Grand Manan Island passed away on May 19, 2014 at The Grand Manan Nursing Home. She was born at New Glasgow NS the daughter of the late Percy and Rebecca (Bainbridge) Ward. Agnes and her husband Thornton lived in Vancouver after they were first married and moved back to New Brunswick in 1953.  Later they moved to Grand Manan in October 1965 the day the "Grand Manan" Ferry (Black Boat known to Islanders) made her maiden voyage to the Island where they settled and made their home for their family.  Where ever she lived Agnes could always make a loving home for her family.  In her leisure time she enjoyed puzzles, knitting, and sewing.  Every grandchilde was a proud owner of several pairs of her mittens.  She worked at Seafare and also Connors Bros. sardine factory in Seal Cove. During the last few years of her life she was a resident of the Grand Manan Nursing Home where she received wonderful compassionate care.  She was steadfast in her faith, her loving, quiet, and kind spirit will be remembered and never forgotten by all who love her.  She is survived by her children Edna "Pat" (Harold) Ingalls of Castalia, Agnes Melanson of Memaramcook, Irene (Lionel) Scott of Castalia, John (Sharon) Bainbridge of Woodstock, Russell (Priscilla) Bainbridge of Moncton, Gerald (Frances) Bainbridge of Saint John, and Herbert (Cindy) Bainbridge of Seal Cove. Twenty one grandchildren and forty four great grandchildren. Her twin brother Gerald (Eileen)Ward of Honey Harbour, ON. Also one daughter in law Teri-Lynn Bainbridge of Seal Cove  Agnes is predeceased by her parents, her husband Thornton Bainbridge, one son Gordon Bainbridge, one great grandson Benjamin Burkholder, also one sister Lilian MacGregor.

 Visiting will take place on Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 at Ells Funeral Home. The  Funeral Service will be from St. Paul Anglican Church Hall on Thursday May 22, 2014 at 1:00pm. A reception will follow the service for a time of fellowship and all are invited and welcome to stay for a time of refreshment.  Interment will follow at the Maple Grove Cemetery. Agnes’ family has requested that donations may be made to The Grand Manan Nursing Home or the donor’s choice.
