Murray Glendon Guptill

1939-2014

Murray Glendon Guptill

Mr. Murray G. Guptill of Grand Harbour Grand Manan Island passed away at his property on Wednesday April 30, 2014.  He was born on Grand Manan the son Glendon and Mae (Kinghorne) Guptill.  Murray was a fisherman and started his career on the water early in life.   He quickly became established owning his own boat and was successful scallop fishing, lobster fishing, or anything that related to his work on the water.  As his sons became older he helped them become a part of his life on the water and they too went on to follow in his footsteps from the things he taught them.  Later in life he and his wife Sharron enjoyed their time together with their family.  With his contagious smile Murray spent time enjoying a few of his passions which included enjoying their camper,  stopping at yard sales, helping his sons with their fishing gear, cutting wood,  and growing vegetable gardens, playing games of cards with family or friends, or taking his speed boat out on the Saint John River.  Murray had an appreciation for older vehicles, as he had a 1967 Chev Truck that he would often be seen running errands in during the warmer months and an old tractor he used on his property.  He is survived by his wife Sharron of fifty years, his two sons, Dennis (Louise) Guptill of Grand Harbour, and Ward (Elaine) Guptill also of Grand Harbour.  Three sisters; Elizabeth Farnsworth of Grand Harbour, Yvonne (Ivan) Guthrie of North Head, and Audrey Foster of Saint John.  His three brothers (Buddy) Herman (Annette)  Guptill of Church Point, NS, David (Maurice) Guptill of Grand Harbour, and Michael (Linda) Guptill of North Head.  Five grandchildren and two great grandchildren, many nieces, nephews and he will be remembered as a friend to everyone.   Besides his parents he was predeceased by one son Galand in 1992, one sister Margaret Galliger, and one brother Maurice.

Visiting will take place on Saturday at the Community Life Church in Grand Harbour from 2-4 and 7-9 pm.  The funeral service will take place from the church on Sunday May 4, 2014 at 1:30 pm with Rev. Dr. Jeff Benson officiating.  The interment will follow at the Maple Grove Cemetery.   Murray’s family has requested that donations may be made to Gideon Memorial Bibles, or the Community Life Church, or to the charity of the donors choice.  Funeral arrangements are in the care of Ells Funeral Home Inc., 1199 Route 776, Grand Manan, NB E5G 1G2.
