Lena M. Greene

Mrs. Lena M. Greene of Castalia Grand Manan Island passed away at the Grand Manan Hospital with her family by her side.  She was born of the late Grovener and Mabel (Allan) Guptill in Castalia.  Her life was one of dedication and working hard to love and care for her family.  Boning herring, cleaning at the Marathon Hotel, working at Nickerson’s Fish Plant were just some of her jobs throughout her life.  She loved to bake.  After boning all day, when her children were young, she would also bone herring in the evening and hear their lessons while working and boning. During the latter part of her life she suffered from illness, but that still didn’t stop her from caring for people that she knew.  She is survived by her husband Harry Greene. One daughter Carolyn Green of Seal Cove.  Five sons; Roger (Faye) Guptill of Castalia, Russell Guptill of Alberta, Curtis Parks of St. George, Elton Greene, and Dornell Greene both of Castalia.  Also one sister Betty Green of Castalia.  Five grandchildren, five great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews.

Visiting will be held at the Castalia Baptist Church on Sunday from 2-4 pm for her friends and neighbors, visiting from 7-9 pm will be a private gathering for her family only.  The funeral service will take place from the church on Monday December 30, 2013 at 2:00 PM with Rev. Ron Ford officiating. The internment will follow at the Maple Grove Cemetery.  Funeral arrangements are in the care of Ells Funeral Home Inc., 1199 Route 776, Grand Manan, NB E5G 1G2.
