Isabelle Doris Guptill

1932-2013

Isabelle Doris Guptill

Mrs. Isabelle Doris Guptill age 81 of Ingalls Head Grand Manan Island, NB passed away peacefully on December 16 at the Grand Manan Hospital after a lengthy illness with cancer.  Born in North Head she was one  of Cecil and Mary Bagley's (nee Flagg) twelve children.   Belle was a strong prayer warrior who touched many lives and always showed Gods love for people. She faithfully served her Lord for more than 50 years at the Community Life Church (formerly the Grand Harbour Baptist). Sunday mornings she could be found at the back of the church welcoming each one as they arrived.   A great giver who devoted her life to helping others.   She loved to cook and give it to someone who was on her mind and in her heart on that particular day.   A visit to a shut in or those going through a difficult time was another way she would bless others’ lives.  Always a loving wife, mother and grandmother to whom family was ever so important.   Family suppers with her siblings gathered together for good food and lots of foolishness and family weekends at Pat and Marilyn's when the off islanders would come to visit were favourites of hers.   Also she enjoyed being out of doors with the birds in her garden, working with her flowers and helping Gene with the firewood in the fall.  Their cottage at Millers Pond was a quiet retreat for Belle and Gene unless of course it was a family weekend when the pond would then echo with peals of laughter from all ages.   She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Mr. Gene Guptill.  Her children;  Scott Guptill (Sheila) of Moncton, Patricia Green of Grand Manan, Jeffery Guptill (Susan) of St. Stephen and Marilyn Guptill (Daniel) of Scotland.  Five grandchildren and four Great grandchildren.  Eight sisters; Eunice Tate, Bernice Hall, Myrtle Dow, Nina Lee, Gwendolyn Green, Marcia (Wendell) Cook, Natalie Urquhart, and Sheila (Vance) Fiander.  Also one brother Angus (Ester) Bagley.  She was predeceased by both of her parent’s one sister Beatrice Hockley, and one brother Frank Bagley.

Visiting will take place at Ells Funeral Home on Wednesday from 2 - 4 and 7- 9 pm.   The funeral service will take place at the Community Life Church on Thursday December 19, 2013 at 12:00 pm with Rev. Jeff Benson officiating.   There will be a reception following the service and all who attend are welcome to stay for a time of fellowship.  The interment will follow later at the Maple Grove Cemetery.  Belle's heart for people and her love of doing for others has prompted her family to ask, particularly in the spirit of this giving season, that in lieu of flowers, donations be made locally. Please donate to the Action Ministries (for Food Bank, Children's Summer Camps, etc.) Grand Manan Hospital Foundation which helps provide furniture and much needed equipment, as well as the Teen Drop Inn Centre at the Community Life Church, which was a cause close to Belle's heart.  Funeral arrangements are in the care of Ells Funeral Home Inc., 1199 Route 776, Grand Manan, NB E5G 1G2. Condolences, messages of sympathy also may be sent to www.ells.ca or (506) 662-3116
