Joan Cook

Mrs. Joan Elizabeth Cook of Seal Cove, Grand Manan Island passed away peacefully at the Grand Manan Hospital Friday October 7, 2011 with her family by her side.  She was born on Grand Manan the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Owen (Junior) and Meredith (Mae) Ingalls of Seal Cove.  Following her graduation from the Grand Manan High School she married Laurence Cook and they started their journey together in Seal Cove.  Loving and caring for her family was Joan’s life, while Laurence fished and provided the family income Joan looked after their home, and where their children were most often Joan was not very far from them.  Volunteering at the school, driving kids up the Island, or helping with a youth program at the church and supporting them as they grew was something that Joan embraced in life.  With her warm smile, gentle way, and her strong unfailing faith Joan’s presence was always steadfast at the Seal Cove Baptist Church.  She helped in every aspect of the church with her Christian family and she will especially be missed as she was involved with the music program every Sunday.  Besides her parents she is survived by her husband Laurence; her two daughters Allyson of Seal Cove, Hannah of Fredericton, and her son Wesley.  Her five brothers; David Ingalls (Debbie) of Cape Sable Island, NS, Bob Ingalls (Muriel) of Moncton, Joseph Ingalls (Leola) of Seal Cove, Russell Ingalls (Joan) of Grand Harbour, and Danny Ingalls (Heidi) of Saint John.  Also her mother-in-law Edith Cook of Deep Cove.  Many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends she has made on her journey through life.  

Visiting hours will take place Monday from 7 – 9 pm at the Seal Cove Baptist Church.  The funeral service will take place from the church on Tuesday October 11, 2011 at 1:30 pm with Rev. Kevin Hicks officiating and Rev. Peter Smith assisting.  Interment of Joan’s ashes will follow at the Hillside Cemetery.  Joan’s family has requested donations may be made to the A.L.S.
