Norman Russell
1967-2011
– Mr. Norman D. Russell of Castalia, Grand Manan Island, NB passed away at his residence Tuesday May 10, 2011. He was born in North Head Grand Manan on October 14, 1967, the son of Dale and Betty (Avery) Russell. After graduating from High School in 1986, Norman went seine fishing as a crew member until the age of 25 when he became Captain of the purse seiner Ocean Supreme owned by his father. Later he pursued a career in diving and then bought a lobster boat and made his living as a fisherman once more. Norman was a great lover of sports, playing basketball, baseball, and hunting. He spent many hours on his computer talking to all his friends on Facebook and playing games. In 2009, Norman had a life-changing accident that left him paralyzed on one side. He recuperated enough to live in his own home with help from his faithful helpmate Carolyn Green. In 2010 he bought a four-wheeler and learned to ride it using one hand. He enjoyed getting out on rides. He loved watching the deer in his yard, and fed them every day he also watched the birds around the marsh. He is survived by his parents Dale and Betty Russell of Grand Manan, daughter Brooke and son Riley Russell of Calais, Maine, one brother Chad, his wife Natalie ,two nieces Tara and Kennedy Russell, the mother of his children Cindy Russell, several Aunts, Uncles and cousins. Visiting will be held from Ells Funeral home on Thursday May12, 2011 from 7 to 9 pm. The funeral service will take place from the North Head Wesleyan Church on Friday, May 13, 2011 at 1:00 pm with Rev. Jasper Rideout officiating. The interment will follow at the Maple Grove Cemetery.
