Allan J. Arthurs
1941-2009
Mr. Allan John Arthurs of North Head Grand Manan Island passed away at
the Saint John Regional Hospital Friday December 11, 2009. Born on
June 12, 1941 he was the son of the late John and Vera (Titus)
Arthurs. Allan worked as a carpenter all of his life and traveled the
Maritimes with his work. He fell in love with Grand Manan Island while
building the Grand Manan Hospital, so much so that he planned his
retirement by moving to the Island and was never sorry he did. Allan
was a member of the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of
America, and also an Associate Member of the Grand Bay Legion. He is
survived by his wife Janet Collins, two brothers; William Arthurs
(Jeanette) of Ottawa, ON, Robert Arthurs (Sandi) of Hamilton, ON. His
step children Kathryn Smith (Eldon), Kimberley Long (Wayne), and Frank
Langmaid (Bonnie) all of Grand Bay-Westfield. Also six grand children,
three great grandchildren, several cousins, and many friends.
Predeceased by one brother Ralph on December 4th, and a step daughter
Ann-Louise Collins.
Visiting will take place from Ells Funeral Home on Monday from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. The funeral service will take place from The Church of the Ascension in North Head on Tuesday December 15, 2009 at 1:00 pm with Rev. Captain Dana Dean officiating. The interment of Allan’s ashes will take place in 2010 at the Cedar Hill Cemetery in Saint John. The family extends a special thanks to Dr. Weurz, Dr. Maloney, Dr. Comeau, Dr. Dolan, the Nurses and Staff of 4CN at the Saint John Regional Hospital for the wonderful care they gave Allan. The family has requested that donations may be made to Action Ministries (Food Bank) of Grand Manan. Funeral arrangements are in the care of ELLS FUNERAL HOME INC. 1199 Route #776, Grand Manan, N.B.
