Joyce Flagg
FLAGG: Mrs Joyce Flagg, beloved mother, grandmother and friend passed
away May 18th, 2009 at the Grand Manan Hospital at the age of 87 after
a brave fight with cancer. Born March 26, 1922 in Barton, Lancaster,
England, Joyce came to Canada as a war bride, where she and her
husband raised their family in the Niagara region of Ontario. Joyce
and Reg retired to Grand Manan Island in 1981, where they were loved
and cherished members of the Island community. Joyce was a devoted
member of the North Head Baptist congregation and a member of the
Ladies’ Auxiliary of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #44. She
enjoyed gardening, sewing, cooking and meeting with friends in the
quilting group. Joyce is survived by her son, Roger Flagg of Fall
River, NS., daughter Janet Morse (Raymond) of Grand Manan, one brother
Deryck Duncalf (Mira) of Connecticut, three grand children, Daphna
Turner (Carvell), Etienne Guimont, Matthew Ingersoll, two
great-grandchildren, Gavin and Wesley Turner, and one nephew Richard
Duncalf (Celeste) of New York. Joyce was predeceased by her husband
Reginald and her son, Cst. John Flagg. Joyce will be sadly missed and
remembered by all who had the pleasure of her kind and loving
companionship.
Visiting will be held from Ells Funeral Home on Tuesday from 2-4, and 7-9 pm. The funeral service will be held from the North Head Baptist Church on Wednesday May 20th, 2009 at 1:30 pm with Rev. Ron Ford officiating. Interment will take place in the North Head Community Cemetery. Joyce’s family has requested that donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, or to an Island charity of the donor’s choice.
