William (Bill) Dwight Daggett

Bill passed through the valley of the shadow of death into the light and peace of His Lord whom he loved on November 15, 2007 with his family by his side. He was the fourth son of William Earle Daggett (predeceased on June 2, 1970) and Della (nee Huntley) Daggett Keating. He is survived by his loving wife Linda (nee Taylor) and daughter Anzonette (Blaine) Brown and grandsons Mitchell and Jaden. He will be sorely missed by his mother and older brothers Russell (Ida), Claude (Helen), Layne (Helena) and younger sister Bonnie (Allen) Benson, his brother-in-law Dwight Taylor (Charmaine), and all his nieces and nephews. Bill and Linda were married in Grand Harbour Baptist Church on August 21, 1965 and have been devoted to their daughter and proud of their grandsons.

Bill was a lifetime resident of Grand Manan, NB where he was well liked, admired and respected. His good humour, quick wit and gifted storytelling left warm and indelible impressions. Finally in 2004 and 2007 Bill’s unwavering devotion to the Red Sox reaped overdue results! He graduated from GMHS in 1962 He graduated as elected valedictorian from The Maritime Forest Ranger School at Fredericton in 1972. He worked in his younger years in the fishing industry and became captain of the Michael and Eileen with his Dad as mate. He managed the Anchorage Provincial Park, which was the original birth site of his paternal great grandfather, from 1972 to 2001. Bill was politically attuned and astute and he served with distinction his beloved island community for almost twelve years serving as councilor, deputy mayor and as mayor. Over the course of many years, he worked hard at improving ferry service for the island residents. He expanded and supervised the rockweed industry for Acadia Seaplants Ltd. which provided employment for island residents and NFLD workers whom he loved and appreciated .He also represented the Island at the Business Development Cooperation for over a decade.

Upon his profession of faith, Bill was baptized in the Seal Cove Baptist Church and subsequently became an active member in the Grand Harbour Baptist Church. His faith in his loving Lord sustained him in his hours of need and he carefully and prayerfully reached out to his many friends even during his illness. His spiritual life was enriched by his many Christian friends and Pastors and comforted by the television programs featuring The Gaithers, Souls’ Harbor, and Dr. Jeremiah. Because of the kind supportive attention they received and on behalf of Bill, his family wish to express their sincere appreciation to the staff of Grand Manan and Saint John Regional Hospitals, the Air and Land Ambulance Services, Doctors Burnell, Dapena and Loree Boyle and the crew of the Grand Manan ferries.

Visiting hours will be held at Ells Funeral Home on Saturday from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. The funeral service will be held Sunday November 18, 2007 at 1:30 pm from the Grand Harbour Baptist Church with Rev. Gordon Walker officiating, assisted by Rev. Ron Ford, and Rev. Layne Daggett. Interment will follow at the Hillside Cemetery in Seal Cove. Bill’s family has requested memorials may be made to the Grand Harbour Baptist Church, The Gideons, The Cancer Society, Vancouver Airport Chaplaincy or a charity of your choice.
