Ray Melbourne Ingalls

1923-2020

Ray Melbourne Ingalls

Mr. Ray Melbourne Ingalls, 96, of Ingalls Head, Grand Manan, NB, passed away peacefully on Monday afternoon, June 29, 2020, at home with his family by his side. Ray was the son of the late Leslie and Lillis (Huntley) Ingalls.

Ray loved his family. Ray and Betty raised their children in a home filled with unconditional love. As their family grew, so did their love.

Ray loved and served the Lord and raised his children to love and follow his faith. He was a member of St. Paul’s Anglican Church where his rich singing voice led the congregation each Sunday. He served as Warden at the Church as well as serving on the Vestry.

He spent most of his adult life lobster fishing, as well as scalloping. He and his dad owned two boats; the Miss Molly and the Trigo. On his own, he owned the Claude G. and the Atlantic I.

Ray loved to garden. He and Betty planted a large vegetable garden for years, with hardly a weed to be found. One of the lessons Ray taught his family: "a job worth doing is a job worth doing well". His meticulously piled firewood was legendary, as were his shed, boats and spotlessly clean basement.

Ray and Betty loved to travel. They especially liked going on bus tours with Hayward and Helen Ingalls, and Sharron and Murray Guptill. For several years, they travelled to Florida with their family. They loved their annual vacations at Cocoa Beach.

Ray is survived by his wife Betty Ellen (Green) Ingalls, of 71 years, two daughters, Yvonne (David) Park, of Ingalls Head, Berneta (Eric) Allaby, of       Quispamsis, NB; one son Claude (Sharon) Ingalls, of North Head; eight grandchildren; fifteen great grandchildren; one great great granddaughter and many nieces and nephews.

Ray is predeceased by his parents; two sisters, Sylvia Ingalls, and Isabelle Brown, one brother, Ernest Ingalls; one great granddaughter Danielle Shaw Park.

Visitation will be on Wednesday, July 1, 2020 at St. Paul’s Hall from 6 – 8pm.  With Covid-19 protocols being in place, please wear your mask. Ray’s Funeral Service will be by family invitation.
