Twilah Alta Leonard
1925-2020

Mrs. Twilah Alta (Ingersoll) Leonard, of Woodward’s Cove, Grand Manan, NB, passed away peacefully on Saturday, January, 25, 2020 at The Grand Manan Nursing Home with family by her side, she was 94. Born in Woodward’s Cove, Grand Manan, NB, she was the daughter of the late George and Hattie (Willigar) Ingersoll.
Twilah was raised in a large family, with her ten siblings; she is the last surviving member of her immediate family. She was a member of the Church of the Ascension and The Rebekah Lodge for ten years, a cook at the Grand Manan Nursing Home for a few years. Twilah moved to Maine and worked for a prominent political family as head cook and house keeper for 25 years. After retiring, she lived between Florida, Maine and Grand Manan before moving permanently to her cottage in Woodward’s Cove in May of 2015.
Twilah is survived by her two sons, Weldon (Bunny) and his wife Andrea Leonard of Southwest Harbour, Maine; Kristen and his wife Selena Leonard of Woodward’s Cove; three grandchildren Justin Todd, Eric and Carleton; five great grandchildren, Daimon, Joshua, Noah, Iris and Jesse, and many nieces and nephews.
Twilah is predeceased by her parents; her husband Harley Leonard, granddaughter Kristin, grandson Baby Paul, five sisters; Irma Cavanaugh , Hazel Lahey, Lois Brown, Viola Lahey, Marjorie Guptill; five brothers Maurice Plant, Richard Ingersoll, Sherwood Ingersoll, Kerman Ingersoll, and Weldon Ingersoll.
Twilah’s family and friends were very important to her. She lived spending time with them all and was always wondering when the next picnic would be. The interesting life she led was a great source of stories which captivated anyone who had the privilege of hearing them.
Cremation will take place and there will be visitation and a celebration of life in the spring.
