Ethel Georgia (Griffin) Kinghorne
1935-2019

Mrs. Ethel Georgia (Griffin) Kinghorne, of North Head, Grand Manan, NB, passed away on Saturday evening, November, 9 2019 at the Grand Manan Nursing Home with her loving family by her side. Born on Seal Cove, Grand Manan, NB, she was the daughter of the late Sherman Griffin and Annie (Ross) Griffin.
In addition to raising a large family, Ethel worked tirelessly throughout her life. She worked at the Surfside motel and labored countless hours working in the family business and other areas of the fishing industry including shucking scallops. Before the formation of Special "K" Fisheries many summers were spent with her family living and dulsing at Beal’s Eddy. Always Community minded she earned an award for her many years of contribution to the Terry Fox run. She volunteered with Meals on Wheels, Church Socials and Heart & Stroke to name a few. Perhaps Ethel’s greatest volunteer work was her passion for picking berries that she would deliver to the Hospital and Nursing home. Affectionately known to her great grandchildren as Grammy Apple she made countless jars of jelly for her family and friends. Ethel looked forward to the annual family adventure on Long Island looking for gulls eggs. She enjoyed Chinese checkers, card games and baking her famous Wood Island cookies for family and her many friends.
Ethel is survived by two daughters Sharon (Claude) Ingalls of North Head, Toby Lambert of Castalia; three sons Sherman (Heather) Kinghorne, of Grand Harbour, Eugene (Juliet) Kinghorne of North Head, Gordon Kinghorne (Mike Duern) of St. Stephen, NB; one sister Delia Lemieux of Fredericton, one hafl- sister Doreen Akerly of Cambridge Narrows; 18 grandchildren; 31 great grandchildren, many nieces, nephews and friends.
Ethel is predeceased by her parents, her husband, Captain Lawson Guy Melourne Kinghorne (2013), her son Roger Kinghorne (2011), three sisters Virginia Hughes, Gertrude Rioux, Jean Irene Lee, five brothers Mariner, Francis, Winston, Donnie "Ross", and Billy Griffin.
There will be visitation on Sunday, November 10, 2019 at The Immanuel Family Church from 6 to 8 PM. A funeral service will be held on Monday, November, 11, 2019 from the Immanuel Family Church at 3:00 PM. The interment to be held at a later date.
