Nora May Elizabeth Locke
1928-2018
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Nora Locke. She suffered a stroke in August of 2017 and bravely fought the battle to recover so "she could spend more time with her family." This time was a blessing but all too brief for all who loved her. She passed away peacefully at the age of ninety on October 24, 2018 at the Grand Manan Nursing Home. With kindness and grace she devoted her life to the love and care of her family. Born July 12, 1928 in Red Rock, York County, NB, she was the daughter of the late Lloyd and Pauline (Gullison) Harvey. She lived primarily in the Fredericton area until her move to Grand Manan Island, NB in 1967.
Nora a beloved wife and supportive partner, was predeceased by her husbands John Allan Ashfield (1919-1966) and Brenton Sterling Locke (1921- 2013). She was also predeceased by her son John Keith Ashfield (1952-2018), her grandchild Joel (1973-1973) and her sister Glenna (1927-1995).
She was a loving mother of four children: Allan Ashfield (Dianne) of Grand Manan, NB, Keith Ashfield (Judy) of Lincoln, NB, Marion Fletcher (Bruce) of Island Lake, AB and Dianne McLaughlin of Grand Manan, NB.;
A proud grandmother of seven: Joel, Tara and Seth Ashfield, Deborah Dakin, Ashley McLaughlin, Jamie and Scott Fletcher and an equally proud great-grandmother of Alexa, Megan and Isaiah Dakin.
She will be lovingly and forever remembered by her surviving siblings Larry, Lyman and Elaine, her extended family and her friends.
Nora requested cremation and that there be no formal service. The family asks that you remember her in your hearts and prayers. Remember her quiet strength, her strong will, her genuine kindness and her faith in God which will carry her to heaven. Interment of her ashes will be held at a later date at the Sterling United Church Cemetery, Tay Creek, NB.
Memorial donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, the Grand Manan Nursing Home Foundation or a charity of the donor’s choice.
