Marion Frances Murison

1927-2018

Marion Frances Murison Marion Frances Murison

Marion slipped away, with her daughter by her side, at the Grand Manan Nursing Home July 21, 2018.  Born in Harris, SK, she was the youngest of six children raised by Percy, Nellie, and her widowed uncle Arthur. She was a tireless worker beginning in her parents’ restaurant washing dishes and singing to guests at age three.  She had a beautiful singing voice, was a good student teaching herself French and Latin, excelled at bookkeeping, but gave up going to college to look after her ailing father. Her short married life took her to Alberta before moving back to Saskatchewan where she raised her family working a multitude of jobs, often several at a time. A devoted mother, she made sure her children had opportunities she missed. She moved to Grand Manan 30 years ago to be close to her daughter, worked as a caregiver, and travelled frequently to visit family.

Marion was predeceased by her parents, Percy and Ellen (Chapman) Shewell, her brother George and his wife Mary, two brother-in-laws (Bill Kozak and Gerry Kelly), and her cousins (and their spouses) whom she regarded as siblings, Eileen (and Allan) Kidd, Gwen (and Frank) Hill and Reginald (and Lillian) Chapman and their father Arthur Chapman.  She is survived by her sister, Florence Kelly (Saskatoon, SK), son Tom and his wife Deborah Cohen (Oakville, ON), grandchildren Rachel (Toronto, ON) and Benjamin (London, UK) Cohen-Murison, daughter Laurie and her husband Ken Ingersoll (Grand Manan, NB), as well as her sister’s and cousins’ families.

An informal celebration of her life will take place on Friday, July 27, 2018 at 7:00 PM at The Gathering Place, Castalia March Retreat, 13 Bancroft Point Road, Grand Manan.  She will be interred with her parents in Harris, SK.  In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Grand Manan Whale & Seabird Research Station, Swallowtail Keepers Society or the choice of the donor.

Arrangements are in the care of Ells Funeral Home Inc., 1199 Route 776, Grand Manan, NB E5G 1G2.  Condolences, messages of sympathy may also be sent to www.ells.ca or (506) 662-3116.
