Preston Wayne Wilcox

Mr. Preston W. Wilcox of Seal Cove, Grand Manan, NB passed away at Ridgewood Veterans Wing, Saint John, NB on Monday, October, 16, 2017 with his loving family by his side.  Preston was born in Seal Cove, Grand Manan, to the late Lewis and Addie (Shepherd) Wilcox.  He was the last surviving member of his immediate family.

Preston was a Merchant Navy Veteran and a lobster fisherman for 60 years, retiring at the age of 80.  He ran a supply boat for 21 years to Machias Seal Island and Gannet Rock, delivering their mail and groceries.  Preston also operated a tour boat to Machias Seal Island, and whale watching, from 1965-1995.

Preston is survived by his loving wife of 20 years, Ruth I. (Bennett-Griffin) Wilcox; one son, Peter (Kenda) Wilcox, of Deep Cove; two grandsons, Kevin (Dawn) Wilcox of Fredericton, Kyle Wilcox of Deep Cove; Ruth’s daughters, Ava (Wayne) Sturgeon, of Seal Cove, their children, Violet, Holley and Blake; Iris Griffin (Ken Purdy) of Hecla, MB; Alana (Robert) MacLeod, of Tower Hill, NB and many nieces and nephews.

Preston is predeceased by his first wife, Perla (Green) Wilcox in 1996; four sisters, Hilda Wilcox, Ruth Tidd, Esther Wilcox, and Norma Griffin; and three brothers, Ralph, Ashley, and Cline.

 

Visitation will take place from The Lighthouse Church, on Wednesday, October, 18, 2017, from 6-8 pm.  The funeral Service will be from the Church on Thursday, October, 19, 2017, at 12:30 pm.

 

The family have requested donations be made to The Lighthouse Church Building Fund, or to the donor’s choice.
