Ernestine Worthen

1927-2017

WORTHEN: ERNESTINE ADDIE (March 14, 1927- January 7, 2017) Mrs. Ernestine A. Worthen of North Head, Grand Manan, NB, passed away at the Grand Manan Nursing Home on Saturday, January 7, 2017.

 Born at Seal Cove, Grand Manan, NB, daughter of the late Ernest and Editha (Ingersoll) Stone. She was a graduate of New Brunswick Provincial Normal School (Teachers Collage), and taught school for several years before her marriage to Douglas Logan Worthen. They lived in Massachusetts for several years, returning to Grand Manan in 1974.

 She was a member of The Church of Ascension, Grand Manan, where she acted as organist and pianist and had been a Sunday school teacher. She also gave piano lessons from her home for many years.

 Ernestine is survived by her son Dr. Van W.  Worthen  (Donna) of North Head, two grandchildren, Megan Worthen of Nanaimo, BC, and Daniel Worthen (Kayo) of North Head; one step-daughter Joyce Ogilvie (David), step-granddaughter Alison Ogilvie, and step-grandson Peter Ogilvie, all of London, ON; and many nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband and three brothers; Austin, Edgar and Bernard Stone.

Visiting will take place from Ells Funeral Home on Monday January 9th 2017, from 2-4 and 6-8 pm. The funeral service will be from the Church of Ascension on Tuesday January 10th, 2017 at 1:00 pm.

 Donations in Ernestine’s memory can be made to The Grand Manan Nursing Home Foundation or to the charity of the donor’s choice.
