Paul Ingersoll

1929-2016

Paul Ralph Ingersoll 1929-2016

It is with deep sadness that the family of Paul Ralph Ingersoll announces his peaceful passing at the Grand Manan Hospital on November 15, 2016 in his eighty-eighth year. Paul was born in Woodward’s Cove, Grand Manan on July 2, 1929, only son of the late Belva Alice (Ingersoll) Muise, and brother to Mrs. Molly Jean (Ingersoll) Barrett. He was also a dear uncle to nephews, Kerry Nason of Grand Manan, Roger (Nancy) Nason of Fredericton and Dale (Cheryl) Nason of Fort Fairfield, Maine. He was great uncle to Elsie (Jeff) Hickey of Saint John; Ian Nason of Fredericton; Todd (Debbie) Nason of Bedford, N.S.; Peter (Helene) Nason of Fredericton; Ben (Pam) Nason of Fort Fairfield, Maine; Heidi Nason of Raleigh, North Carolina; and, Sarah (Jackie) Kelley of Nashville, Tennessee, and their families. Paul was pre-deceased by his brother in-law, Charles Barrett in 1998.

Paul was raised and lived his life on the original Nelson Ingersoll homestead on the Shore Road in the Cove. From a very early age he went to work in the family smoked fishing business and grew up around the smoke houses that lined the Cove. As a jack-of-all-trades Paul turned his hand at freighting with Ernest Griffin in the 1940s, building and fishing weirs from Long Island to Duck Island in the 50s and 60s, or, part of the crew at Morse’s, McLaughlin’s and Look’s lobster pounds on the Thoroughfare. In between he was frequently seen deep in the woods with late friend, Bertie Smith, cutting and hauling winter wood. For enjoyment in summer he escaped when he could to his secret blueberry patch along the shore or off to White Head for gathering baked apples. And, of course, there was always time for listening to bluegrass music.

Special thanks go out from the family for the excellent care he received from Gail Ingersoll of Kindred Care who went above and beyond. Also, gratitude to the Doctors and staff of Grand Manan Hospital and the Ambulance Service for their caring approach.

Visitation will take place in Grand Harbour at the Central Wesleyan Church on Friday, November 18, 2016, beginning at 1:30 and funeral service to follow at 2:30pm. Interment will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery.
