George William Brown

George William Brown

Mr. George W. Brown, of Deep Cove, Grand Manan Island, NB, passed away at the Grand Manan Hospital on Wednesday, August 3, 2016 with his family by his side. He was born in Seal Cove the son of John and Lois (Ingersoll) Brown. George worked on the water as a fisherman for most of his life. He was very community minded and enjoyed having a visit with people that crossed his path.  Politics were his passion, and he was a true dedicated Liberal, and was always prepared to speak on issues concerning the national, provincial, and local community.  He was committed to his Savior and served the Lord at the Seal Cove Wesleyan Church as a Sunday School Teacher, Board Member, and member of the congregation.   

George is survived by his wife of sixty six years, Elizabeth Ann (Betty) (Somers) Brown; two daughters Angela Betts of Ottawa, ON and Suzanne (Mark) Doan of Jacksonville, FL.  Four sons; Glendon (Vesna) Brown, of Fredericton, NB, Rev. Thurland (Lorraine) Brown, Winchester, ON, William (Roberta) Brown, Grand Manan, and Edward Brown, Edmonton, AB.  Nineteen grandchildren, thirty two great grandchildren, and one great great grandchild.  Three sisters; Marilyn Cary, Woodward Cove,  Selinda (Murray) Ryder of Moncton, and Dorothy Griffin of  Castalia.  Three brothers; John (Charmaine) Brown, Seal Cove, Sherwin (Jean) Brown of Windsor, ON and Robert (Barbara) Brown, St. Stephen, and one brother in law Bernard Russell, Castalia. George is predeceased by his parents, one son Douglas Brown and three sisters Leola Monroe, Deanna Russell and Edith Brown.

Visiting will take place at Seal Cove Wesleyan Church from 2-4 and 6-8pm on Friday August 5th, 2016. The Funeral Service will be from the church on Saturday August 6, 2016 at 1:00pm.  There will be a reception following the service.  Interment will take place at the Spruce Grove Cemetery.  Donations may be made to the Grand Manan Hospital Foundation, Gideon Bibles, The Lighthouse (Wesleyan Worship building Fund) or the donor’s choice.  Funeral arrangements are in the care of Ells Funeral Home Inc., 1199 Route 776, Grand Manan, NB E5G 1G2.
