Lester Herman Carroll

Mr. Lester H. Carroll formerly of White Head Island passed away at the Grand Manan Nursing Home on April 25, 2016.  He was born at White Head, the son of the late Linwood and Lena (Cossaboom) Carroll. Lester worked at various jobs throughout his life following his Honorable Discharge from the Army after the Second World War.  He worked as a fisherman, hard hat diver, worked at the Saint John Winter Port.  Later he owned and operated the Sojourner as the White Head Ferry and kept people and goods moving back and forth faithfully from White Head to Grand Manan.  Later he was the mail carrier for Canada Post moving the mail between the White Head and Grand Harbour Post Offices.  He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #44.  Also he was a faithful member serving the Lord at the White Head Baptist Church.  Lester served the Church as a Deacon.  Lester and Beth’s home was always open where everyone was always welcome for a meal or a place to stay.  They helped with foster children and also took in borders.  Lester with his wife Beth will always be remembered for their kindness and generosity to others.  He is survived by one daughter Christine Morse (Blake) of White Head.  Three grandchildren; Holly Cook, Brett Morse, Darrin Carroll.  Seven great grandchildren, one great great grandchild, several nieces and nephews.  His daughter-in-law Dianna Carroll, and sister-in-law Gertrude Carroll.  He was predeceased by his wife Beth (Paterson) Carroll (2009), one daughter Susan (1956).  Two sons; David Allan (nine months old), and David Colby (2007).  One brother Dolph ("Dot").

Visiting will take place at the White Head Baptist Church on Wednesday from 2-4 and 7-9 pm.  The funeral service will take place from the church on Thursday April 28, 2016 at 10:45 am with Pastor John Banks and Pastor Ron Ford officiating. Donations may be made to the White Head Baptist Church Missionary Foundation, or the donor’s choice.  Funeral arrangements are in the care of Ells Funeral Home Inc., 1199 Route 776, Grand Manan, NB E5G 1G2.
