MCDOWELL:HELEN ARLENE (1919-2016) Mrs. Arlene McDowell of Grand Harbour, Grand Manan Island passed away at the Grand Manan Nursing Home on Thursday March 3, 2016. She was born at North Head the daughter of the late John Jack and Ella (DeNully) Smith. Arlene was a faithful founding member of Central Wesleyan Church where she had been a Sunday school teacher for many years. Many of her summers where spent at Beulah Camp with her family and friends. For twenty nine years she was the manager of Haley Lumber Co. Arlene is survived by one daughter Susan Hindle (Thomas) of Halifax, NS, and one son Wiley McDowell (Charlotte) of Grand Harbour, Grand Manan, six grandchildren, ten great grandchildren and four great great grandchildren. Besides her parents she was predeceased by her husband Joseph McDowellin (1990), one great grandson, four sisters, Marie Merriam, Eleanor Russell,Jean Swingley, Dora Brown, two brothers Prescott and Seldon Smith. Visiting will take place at Central Wesleyan Church from 2-4 and 6-8pm on Sunday March 13th. The Funeral Service will be from the church on Monday March 14, 2016 at 1:00pm. There will be a grave side service later in the spring at Maple Grove Cemetery. Donations may be made to Central Wesleyan Church or to the donor's choice in Arlene's memory.
