Hayward B. Ingalls

1921-2010

Hayward B. Ingalls
Mr. Hayward B. Ingalls 89) Of Grand Harbour, Grand Manan Island passed away at the Grand Manan Hospital on August 16, 2010. Born at Ingalls Head, he was the son of the late Frank and Alfetta (Wilcox) Ingalls. Hayward was a lobster fisherman when he married his wife Helen Dakin; he once owned the Farmer’s Dairy on Grand Manan and engaged in various forms of fishing. He started out with his father, then working on the herring carrier “Myrna & Janet” and later lobster fishing, with a short stint at taxi driving during the war. His final occupation was Wharf Agent for Coastal Transport which he took in 1978 after he sold his lobster boat and leave fishing due to health reasons. He retired in 1986, but was always interested in hearing of Allison’s herring news with the carriers and grandson Jeffrey’s lobster fishing. Hayward was a member of the Grand Harbour Baptist Church for many years where he was a Trustee and also enjoyed many years with the church choir. Despite several health issues continuing of the past years, he still had a strong spirit and sense of humor. He loved the many visits from family, friends and the different health care units before ill health sent him to the hospital earlier this summer. He is survived by his wife Mrs. Helen Ingalls (Dakin) of Grand Harbour, his daughter Janice (Allison) Naves of North Head. Two brothers; James (Audrey) Ingalls of Grand Harbour, and Curtis Ingalls of Toronto, ON. Also his grandson Jeff (Jenny) Naves of North Head. Many nieces and nephews and many friends. He was predeceased by his grandson Michael in 1992, and two brothers Hartford and L. Henry Ingalls.
